Henderson’s 6th Annual American Cancer Society Benefit Gospel Concert was held on February 12th at the Henderson Civic Center.  This event is hosted by Rusk County Relay For Life Good Hope Baptist Church Team headed up by our dear friend Sallie Green.

Sallie (a cancer survivor) and her husband Doyle (who went to be with the Lord 2 years ago after battling cancer) had the vision 6 years ago to bring in The New Plainsmen for a special concert that would benefit the AMCS and help to raise funds to fight this terrible disease.  Well I can say that after 6 years of hard work, dedication and prayer...this proved to be the best concert yet!!!!!  Sallie, our hats are off to you and your team!!!  You girls and guys did an outstanding job and are to be commended!!!   WOW!!!!

WOW....did I say WOW yet?  WOW!!!!!  David Chenault, on-air personality from KWRD/KPXI was the emcee for this years concert.  This evening was kicked off with a chicken spaghetti dinner provided by The Cotton Patch.  Ummm good!!!!  During the meal, folks were entertained with dinner music by Hatti Bridges, Harrold Bassett (along with his daughter Shellbee), Tressa Rudd and Ally Fuller.  While eating dinner, The New Plainsmen and Grounded also mingled around, serving the guests and visiting!!  You all did an excellent job along with The Cotton Patch!!!!

Following the meal, Rusk County Judge Joel Hale welcomed everyone to the concert and  Pastor David Rudd then opened with prayer to kick off the evening concert.  It began with a group of young men from Mt. Enterprise, TX called Grounded.  This was the first time for TNP to meet this quartet.   These guys did an outstanding job and we really enjoyed sharing the stage with them.   The New Plainsmen always count it an honor to sing for the AMCS and this time was certainly no exception.  And all the folks that came out to support this event, came with their hearts open to enjoy an evening filled with good ole’ gospel music.  So that made it especially easy to sing...and what a great spirit there was in that place.

This concert honored a special 10 year old boy by the name of Gavin Rodden.  Gavin has rhabdomyosarcoma and is currently undergoing treatment.  Gavin, along with his twin brother Garrett and younger sister Lorelai, as well as several family members were able to be in attendance on this special evening.   “Pennies for Gavin” was a special offering that was taken up during the evening and helped to raise $3,200 for this family.  WOW!!!  Isn’t God good?  Thanks so very, very much to all of who donated to Gavin and his family!!!!!  We pray you will be blessed beyond measure!!  A big thanks to Gavin and his family for coming out and sharing the evening with us.  We love you Gavin!  You are in our prayers!  God bless!

I do not have the words to tell you how awesome this evening was!!  But it was great!!!  Thanks again to Sallie Green!!  It was your vision that started us on this journey 6 years ago.  Doyle would be proud!!!!  Thanks to those who purchased tickets and ads to benefit the AMCS.  Thanks to ALL the workers and team for your hard work, dedication and commitment!  Thanks to David Chenault...great job man!!  Thanks to all the soloist....you all did great!!!!  A special thanks to Grounded...for your sincerity and great attitudes...oh yeah, and for your help tearing down!!!   And last but not least...thanks to Brently and Daniel!  You did a great job guys!!!  And my wife Renee...I love you honey...Happy Valentines Day!!

And may I leave you with this....WOW!!!!  What an outstanding evening!!!
